Teamworks Karting Looks Forward to its First Cadet Grand Prix

Following the success of our Cadet Clubs, the last two months have seen our young drivers showcasing their existing skills and learning new ones in order to achieve their very own Teamworks Karting Race License.  Under the tuition of Race Directors Chris Twitchen and Joshua Poolton and ably assisted by our experienced track marshals, the best performing young drivers have been completing their licenses, enabling them to compete on an even grander scale in our first Cadet Club Grand Prix events.

Our new Cadet Grand Prix events are strictly for under 16's who have shown in previous cadet clubs that they have all the qualities of budding go kart champions.  The first events are on Sunday 14th November.

If you're under 16 and would like to participate in these new competitive events, look out for the cadet club listings on our web site or contact us on 0845 180 3020

Karting Tips - Racing

Kart racing tips from our senior Race Director, Ian Seager

Racing

Never look behind when you are racing! Everything behind you is history! By twisting to look back you are probably going to drive toward a barrier and slow yourself down. If you are thinking about the people behind you are not concentrating on what’s in front! Finally, it gives them encouragement since they know you are worried about them and distracted!

I always give three words of advise to novice racers. Concentrate, concentrate and concentrate! The race lasts from the lights to the flag, and in between you should be using every ounce of concentration to maximise the performance of the kart, get past the people in front and keep the ones behind firmly where they should be! Dont wave to your mates, never celebrate overtaking manoeuvres, don’t get angry of you get overtaken or make a mistake. These just waste concentration. Finally, never rehearse your victory speech until you have actually crossed the winning line!

Price Changes

Teamworks Karting has held its prices steady since January 2007, but inevitably prices have to rise in line with increasing supplier costs.  Prices have today risen by an average of £1.95 per person, although some events have been reduced: Cadet Club and Cadet Grand Prix events are now just £26.95 if booked online.

This is the first time prices have risen at Teamworks Karting for nearly 4 years, and prices will remain fixed in 2011 despite the forthcoming rise in VAT.

You can save an extra £5 per driver on all of our event formats by booking online: For full details and online booking visit our online events calendar.

Karting Tips - Overtaking

Kart racing tips from our senior Race Director, Ian Seager

Overtaking

People think that they should always be able to overtake. If it was easy I’d be on television every weekend driving an F1 car! The simple overlooked fact is that you need to be faster than the person in front at some point on the track. If you are much faster you will get past easily. If you are close on speed then you will need to work at it. The best way to slow the person in front down is to make him defend. He will take a slower line to block you if he thinks you might pass him, leaving you a faster line out of the corner and now you are suddenly much faster than him and able to breeze past. You may need to do this for several corners before finally outfoxing him. Be sure to wave as you go past!

OK are you going to simply drive past on the straight, go round someone in the corner or outbrake them when you arrive at a corner. Without a magic wand you are going to have to do one of these if you are going to pass the kart in front. The first is easiest but you will need to be faster through the corner onto the straight to make it work. Going round someone in a corner only works if they are really slow; it’s normally step one on the way to the scene of your accident! Outbraking is the easiest but you must be very close since braking distances in karting are short.

Karting Tips - Race Start

Kart racing tips from our senior Race Director, Ian Seager

Race Start

Well the famous saying is that you can’t win the race at the first corner, but you can certainly lose it! Whilst it may be a great chance to overtake a few people it’s also your best chance of getting parked in a barrier! Have a plan. Decide which side of the track you would like to be on approaching the corner. Watch other races and see where the traffic queue forms to get round. See where people are spinning or getting slowed by contact. Then in your race position yourself, brake a little earlier and pick your way past the people making a mess of things. Job done...
